Define the usable sheet first
Edge trim reduces the usable rectangle before any pieces are placed. Kerf then consumes additional material between cuts.
Rotation changes the search space
Allowing 90° rotation can substantially improve material use. Disable it for grain-sensitive or directional material.
Heuristics matter
Large-first ordering is common, but different cut lists benefit from different placement choices. PackMize compares several deterministic orders and fit scores.
