How many boxes fit in a 20 ft container?

A 20 ft container capacity cannot be answered from CBM alone. Carton orientation, internal dimensions, door opening and payload can all become the limiting constraint.

Use the actual internal dimensions

Nominal container names do not define one universal internal size. Equipment series can differ slightly, so PackMize presets are planning references and the custom option should be used when exact equipment specifications are available.

Geometric capacity

The engine generates permitted carton orientations, builds efficient two-dimensional layer patterns and combines layer heights inside the available container height. It also checks whether the chosen orientation can pass through the door opening.

Payload capacity

Payload can become the active limit before the geometric space is full. If each carton weighs 20 kg, a 28,000 kg payload would cap cargo at 1,400 cartons even if geometry could fit more.

CBM is a diagnostic, not the final answer

CBM compares volumes, but rectangular packing creates gaps. A high volume ratio does not prove that the boxes can be arranged physically or loaded safely.

Operational limitations

The current PackMize public container engine is single-SKU. It does not certify loading sequence, center of gravity, lashing, axle distribution, forklift access or dangerous-goods segregation.

Is this a safety or engineering certification?

No. PackMize provides planning calculations within the stated mathematical model. Operational safety, stability, regulations and equipment constraints must be checked separately.

Can I use my own dimensions?

Yes. The linked PackMize tool accepts standard presets where relevant and custom dimensions for operational planning.

Does PackMize use AI to calculate the result?

No. Core packing and cutting results are produced by deterministic mathematical engines. AI or LLM output is not used to decide the numeric result.
