How to measure pallet dimensions correctly

Small input mistakes can change layer count, TI-HI and payload results. Use outside dimensions and distinguish the pallet base from the loaded pallet envelope.

Length and width

Use the usable rectangular pallet footprint in the same orientation as the loading plan. A EUR/EPAL footprint is commonly represented as 1200 × 800 mm, but custom or damaged equipment should be measured directly.

Base height versus maximum total height

Base height is the height of the empty pallet. Maximum total height is the allowed height from the floor to the top of the load. Usable cargo height is the difference between them.

Payload and tare

Payload is the allowed cargo mass. Tare is the empty pallet mass. Do not substitute gross transport limits for pallet payload without checking the governing specification.

Carton dimensions

Measure the packed outside carton, not an internal product dimension. Bulges, corner protectors, wrap and tolerances can reduce real loading clearance, so operational plans may need a margin.
